The funny thing is that I have known Kim for some time. After she saw me present the keynote at an event and book signing she became what I called a “purse stalker.” She called me and cajoled me into helping her launch her Purse Group -five to ten women who agree to follow the steps that I provide in the last chapter of my book, A Purse of Your Own or that you can download at the Purse Community. Since that first meeting these women met at each others homes and practiced a level of transparency and commitment to getting their finances in order that brought me pure joy. Here it is a year later and the group finished the book, applied the principals to their finances and are taking the next step to invest and pool their money together. And of course Kim has invited me to help them launch their Purse Investment Group. How could I say no after she agreed to pay it forward by sharing how and what they did on Wealthy Radio this week.

Last night on Wealthy Radio I interviewed two women who shared great insights on how to actually grow a successful business. My first guest Gloria Berthold Larkin discussed what steps small business owners can take to break into the government contracting market. What was truly insightful was her characterization of government contracting as “a market with a unique culture, language and operating methodology which you must understand in order to be successful”. Have you been unsuccessful at breaking into the 500 billion dollar government contracting market? Gloria describes the federal government as a Fortune 1 company. Check out her book The Basic Guide to Government Contracting at http://targetgov.com.

My next conversation was with Carolyn Sawyer, CEO of the Tom Sawyer Company and she shared how she left her broadcast journalism career to start her business and has grown it to over a million dollars in annual revenues in less than ten years. What was the secret to her success? Saying yes to an opportunity to provide services that were not necessarily her companies core competency. Carolyn said it quite succinctly, “If you don’t have clients, you don’t have a business. Further validating the need for entrepreneurs to be open to the possibilities that growing your business requires. If you want to learn how this savvy sister created a purse of her own and how you can too read her book, Forget The Glass Slipper: Build Your Own Castle: The Ten Traits of a million dollar business.
