It’s May 29th, do you know what that means?… five-twenty-nine Day, of course! I’m talking about Section 529 of the Internal Revenue Code. It gives states the right to have tax-advantaged college savings plans. Our first guest is Executive Director of the College Savings Plans of Maryland, Joan Marshall. She and I will discuss how you can take care of “yours” with the plans available.
What do you want to know about saving for college? Are you wondering whether your savings should go to the college fund instead of the retirement fund?
Joining us tonight is Joan Marshall. She is the Executive Director of the state agency, College Savings Plans of Maryland. Joan has overseen the growth in the Maryland Prepaid College Trust from one-thousand-one hundred participants in 1998 to more than thirty-thousand. And The Daily Record has named her one of “Maryland’s Top 100 Women” in 1998, 2000, and 2002.
